Opened in 1961 and designed by the English architect C. Kenneth Cotton, the eastern and the western courses include a total of 27 holes. The western course, with its 18 holes, is the oldest one and hosted important professional events such as the World Cup in 1968 and 1984, the Italian Open in 2002 and 2019, the Ladies Italian Open and the Challenge Tour in various occasions.
In 2012 the course was redesigned by the American architect Jim Fazio and is normally played as a par 73 with its 6,547 metres in length. It can be played from 7 different tees, as a par 71 or a par 72.
The eastern course, far from being an executive course, has a lovely tricky 9 holes design, par 36 and 2947 metres in length.
